General comment

Proto-Hoocąk-Chiwere and Proto-Dhegiha show a compound of ‘water’ with ‘put in, fill, plant’, here in the sense ‘pour’. Dakota is aberrant in its first root, which might be Dakotan máɣa ‘field’ or Proto-Mississipi-Valley *mą́•xicloud’.
