The Hidatsa form, when compared with the Mandan, seems to derive by rightward vowel exchange from an earlier *-ruka-. The inalienable possession of the form in Hidatsa may result from the homophony of uninflected *waraku- <*waruka- = Mandan warų-ka to the first person inalienable form of a putative **raku-.
