General comment

Kanza/Kaw hóšta ‘something small’ and a possibly related Hoocąk form, hočįčį́(nįk) ‘boy’ (KM-1179) suggests that hoš- may be segmentable and that a metathesis has occured in Dakotan. Cf. Tunica ʔɔ´kaší ‘child+male’ (Haas), a possible diffused form.
